FG Deploys 79 Advanced Ambulances to Boost Emergency Healthcare Nationwide

By Peace Erewunmi

The Federal Government has deployed 79 advanced ambulances to tertiary healthcare institutions across Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen emergency medical response and improve access to quality healthcare services.

The ambulances were commissioned under the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS), a programme designed to enhance emergency care delivery and reduce avoidable deaths across the country.

Officials said the vehicles are equipped with advanced medical and communication systems that will enable healthcare workers to provide critical care during patient transportation and improve coordination with receiving hospitals.

The initiative is expected to strengthen emergency response capacity in federal tertiary health institutions, improve referral systems, and ensure faster access to lifesaving treatment.

According to health sector officials, the ambulances were assembled in Nigeria, including the installation of emergency medical equipment, reflecting growing local capacity in healthcare technology and vehicle manufacturing.

The vehicles are designed as Advanced Life Support units and feature modern equipment intended to improve patient survival rates during medical emergencies.

Authorities noted that the deployment forms part of broader healthcare reforms aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare, improving emergency services, and strengthening the nation’s health infrastructure.

Health experts have welcomed the development, noting that efficient emergency transportation plays a crucial role in reducing complications and deaths resulting from delayed medical intervention.

The Federal Government expressed optimism that the nationwide distribution of the ambulances will enhance healthcare delivery and support ongoing efforts to improve public health outcomes.

As of the time of filing this report, the ambulances were being distributed to tertiary healthcare institutions across the country to support emergency medical operations.
