JAMB Approves 150 Minimum Cut-Off for Universities, 100 for Polytechnics for 2026 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The board also approved a minimum score of 100 for admissions into polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide.
The decision was announced during the annual JAMB policy meeting held in Abuja, where key stakeholders in the education sector gathered to discuss admission guidelines for the new academic session.
Participants at the meeting included the Minister of Education, vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and heads of tertiary institutions across the country.
JAMB explained that the approved scores serve as the national minimum benchmark for admissions, while individual institutions are free to adopt higher cut-off marks depending on their standards and course requirements.
The board also maintained that colleges of nursing sciences would use a minimum benchmark similar to that of universities.
Education stakeholders noted that the policy is aimed at maintaining fairness and consistency in the admission process while allowing institutions flexibility in determining their final admission criteria.
Candidates seeking admission have been advised to monitor announcements from their preferred institutions for specific departmental and institutional cut-off marks.
Further admission guidelines and timelines are expected to be released by JAMB and tertiary institutions in the coming weeks.
