Cooking Gas Price Rises to ₦1,500/kg as Marketers Warn of Supply Shortage

By Erewunmi Peace

Cooking gas prices across Nigeria have reportedly risen to about ₦1,500 per kilogram, with marketers warning of possible supply shortages in different parts of the country.

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) raised concerns over the increasing cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), citing supply challenges and rising operational expenses.

According to marketers, the high cost of gas supply at depots, transportation expenses, and unstable market conditions are contributing to the sharp increase in retail prices nationwide.

Industry operators also warned that continued supply difficulties could worsen scarcity and push prices even higher if urgent measures are not taken.

Some marketers noted that the rising cost of cooking gas is already affecting households and small businesses that rely heavily on LPG for daily activities.

The development has sparked concerns among consumers, with many Nigerians lamenting the increasing cost of living and the impact on domestic energy use.

Experts have warned that prolonged price increases could force some households to return to alternative cooking methods such as firewood and kerosene.

Marketers are calling on relevant authorities and stakeholders in the petroleum sector to address supply and pricing issues in order to stabilize the market.
