Former senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing lack of acceptance and alleged unfair treatment within the party.

She made the announcement in a resignation letter dated May 31, 2026, addressed to the APC leadership in Ogun State.

According to her, the decision was influenced by what she described as persistent disrespect, exclusion, and dissatisfaction with how party affairs were being managed at the state level.

Iyabo Obasanjo also faulted the process that produced the party’s governorship consensus candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, alleging that she was neither consulted nor properly involved in the decision-making process.

She explained that although she had initially agreed to support any consensus arrangement reached by the party, the process that eventually unfolded did not reflect internal fairness or inclusiveness.

The former senator added that some of her supporters were allegedly denied access during key party activities, which further deepened her grievances.

Her resignation has sparked reactions within political circles, especially in Ogun State, where she had previously shown interest in the APC governorship ticket.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC leadership in Ogun State has not issued a formal response to her resignation.
