ICPC Secures Conviction of Firm MD Over Forged ₦182.7m HYPREP Contract Documents

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of the Managing Director of a firm over forged documents linked to a ₦182.7 million Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) contract.

The conviction was delivered by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja after the ICPC established that the defendant submitted falsified documents during a procurement process.

According to the anti-graft agency, the company allegedly used forged documents claiming to have executed previous contracts with major government institutions in a bid to qualify for the HYPREP consultancy project.

The court found the defendant guilty on multiple counts bordering on forgery and false representation.

Following the judgment, the court imposed fines on the convicted individual for the offences, in line with applicable legal provisions.

The ICPC described the ruling as a significant step in its ongoing efforts to curb procurement fraud and ensure transparency in government contract processes.

The commission further warned contractors and firms against the use of forged or misleading documents in securing public contracts, stating that such actions will be met with strict legal consequences.

The case forms part of broader anti-corruption efforts targeted at improving accountability in public procurement and contract execution in Nigeria.
