Court Adjourns El‑Rufai’s Bail Hearing to March 31
By Erewunmi Peace
A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned the bail application hearing of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, to March 31, 2026.
El‑Rufai is currently facing corruption charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The court’s adjournment came during proceedings on his bail application, allowing both the defence and prosecution to make further submissions at the next hearing.
The ICPC clarified that it did not request a fresh detention order for the former governor. El‑Rufai’s continued custody is under the existing court remand order pending the conclusion of the legal process.
Legal analysts say the adjournment is routine in complex corruption cases, giving the court time to consider arguments from both parties.
The case has attracted significant public attention, highlighting ongoing debates about accountability, governance, and the legal system in Nigeria. Observers are closely monitoring the March 31 hearing for potential developments regarding El‑Rufai’s bail application.
