Umahi Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum to Contractors on Abuja-Lokoja Road Project

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to contractors handling sections of the Abuja-Lokoja Road project over concerns about delays and project execution.
The directive followed an inspection visit to the highway, during which the minister assessed the progress of ongoing construction and rehabilitation works.
Umahi reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on some sections of the project and instructed the contractors to take immediate corrective measures.
According to the minister, contractors must demonstrate visible progress within the stipulated period or face sanctions in accordance with the terms of their contracts.
He emphasized the importance of the Abuja-Lokoja corridor, describing it as a critical national route that supports economic activities and movement across different parts of the country.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that road infrastructure projects are completed according to approved standards and timelines.
Road users and stakeholders have welcomed the move, expressing hope that increased supervision and accountability will accelerate completion of the project.
As of the time of filing this report, the contractors involved had not publicly responded to the ultimatum.
