Ekiti Poll: NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel

By Peace Erewunmi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,000 personnel across Ekiti State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, in a major security operation aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible poll.

According to the Corps, the deployment is part of its statutory responsibility to provide security for lives, property, and critical national infrastructure during elections, while preventing violence, voter intimidation, and other forms of electoral malpractice.

The personnel deployed were drawn from various state commands, including neighbouring states, and reinforced with specialised tactical units such as intelligence squads, rapid response teams, and K-9 units to strengthen operational coverage before, during, and after the election.

Security authorities stated that the officers will be strategically positioned across polling units, collation centres, and flashpoints identified through intelligence reports to ensure maximum security presence throughout the electoral process.

The NSCDC also confirmed that its personnel have been instructed to maintain professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to electoral laws, warning against any form of misconduct or compromise during duty.

Officials added that the Corps is working in close collaboration with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to coordinate operations and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.

Residents of Ekiti State have been urged to remain peaceful, comply with electoral guidelines, and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities during the election period.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies say all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a safe environment for voters and election officials.
