Latest Update on El-Rufai’s ICPC Corruption Trial

By Peace Erewunmi

The ongoing corruption case involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has continued at the Federal High Court as proceedings progress under the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Recent court records show that the trial is still at the stage of pre-trial and motion hearings, with the court gradually moving toward full defence and substantive examination of evidence presented by the prosecution.

In one of the latest developments, the court had ruled that a prima facie case exists in related charges linked to alleged financial misconduct involving public funds during the administration of former Kaduna State officials connected to the case. This decision requires the defendants to open their defence in ongoing proceedings.

El-Rufai has consistently denied all allegations against him, maintaining that his administration followed due process in all financial and administrative decisions while in office. His legal team has also continued to challenge aspects of the charges, arguing that the evidence presented does not establish criminal intent.

The ICPC, on its part, insists that it has sufficient documentary and testimonial evidence to support its allegations and has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the case to its logical conclusion in line with the law.

Court proceedings have been adjourned to allow for further hearing of motions, review of evidence, and continuation of defence processes. The matter remains ongoing and no final judgment has been delivered.

Observers note that the case is part of broader anti-corruption efforts involving former public officials, and it is expected to continue through several stages of litigation before a final determination is reached.

As of the time of filing this report, El-Rufai remains subject to court supervision and ongoing judicial proceedings.
