ADC Announces Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 Polls

By Peace Erewunmi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reportedly announced former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement, according to party sources, follows consultations within the party leadership and coalition stakeholders as the ADC intensifies preparations for the upcoming presidential race.

Amaechi, who previously contested for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, is expected to bring extensive political experience to the ticket, having served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation.

Political observers say the development could significantly reshape the opposition’s strategy ahead of the 2027 elections, given the influence both Atiku and Amaechi command in different regions of the country.

Supporters of the arrangement describe it as a strategic alliance aimed at strengthening the party’s chances at the polls, while critics have questioned the political calculations behind the decision and its implications for internal party balance.

As of the time of filing this report, the ADC has not released an official comprehensive statement detailing the final endorsement process, although multiple party insiders have confirmed the development.

The announcement has continued to generate reactions across political circles, with analysts closely watching how the emerging ticket will influence Nigeria’s evolving 2027 political landscape.
