Family of Major General Akerejola Files EFCC Petition, Alleges Looting of Military Funds

A fresh wave of controversy has emerged in Nigeria’s military leadership as the family of Major General Erema Akerejola has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), accusing the senior officer of looting military funds for personal enrichment.
The petition, reportedly signed by retired Major Fimihan Akerejola—a cousin to the general—alleges that General Akerejola diverted large sums allocated for military logistics, welfare, and procurement to fund private companies and acquire high-value assets overseas.
“He used fronts and private firms to siphon millions meant for Nigerian soldiers,” the petition claims.
Documents attached to the petition and leaked to the press detail how the general allegedly funneled money through Nigerian-based companies such as EMI Scanners Integrated Services, and LBCS LLC in the United States. A key piece of evidence includes the purchase of a luxury home in Alpharetta, Georgia, worth over $1.3 million—allegedly paid for in full with no traceable mortgage.
The ICPC has reportedly acknowledged receipt of the petition and is reviewing the case. The EFCC has yet to publicly comment.
Previous Denial from Nigerian Army
It is not the first time General Akerejola has come under scrutiny. In late 2023, the Nigerian Army issued a formal denial of earlier reports linking him to the same U.S. property. At the time, they insisted the house was bought by his wife on mortgage long before his current appointment and condemned the reports as a smear campaign.
However, the family’s renewed petition appears to bring fresh evidence to light, potentially reigniting interest in the general’s financial dealings and raising questions about accountability within Nigeria’s military structure.
The situation remains fluid as both anti-corruption agencies are yet to confirm whether a formal investigation has been launched.
