Lagos APC to Obasanjo: You’re in No Position to Call Anyone Incompetent

By Erewunmi Peace

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent remarks describing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “competing with Buhari in incompetence.”

In a strongly worded statement, APC Publicity Secretary Seye Oladejo said Obasanjo’s comments were “laughable” and “disgracefully hypocritical,” given the controversies that marred his tenure as Nigeria’s leader.

“It is the height of hypocrisy for Obasanjo, under whose administration Nigeria witnessed monumental failures and undemocratic practices, to accuse anyone of incompetence,” the statement read.

Oladejo accused Obasanjo of harboring bitterness because Tinubu remains politically influential and continues to implement bold reforms. He argued that Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rate, demonstrate courage and competence rather than failure.

“President Tinubu has shown leadership by taking tough decisions necessary for Nigeria’s economic stability. Those who criticize him either do not understand the magnitude of the challenges or are blinded by political bitterness,” Oladejo added.

The APC further claimed that Obasanjo’s legacy is tainted by unfulfilled promises and power struggles, making his criticism irrelevant.

Obasanjo, during an event earlier this week, had said that Tinubu’s administration was competing with former President Muhammadu Buhari in incompetence, sparking nationwide reactions and heated political debates.

Political observers note that this exchange underscores the deep divisions among Nigeria’s political elite as the country navigates economic reforms and rising public discontent over inflation and living costs.

The APC urged Nigerians to support the current administration as it works to stabilize the economy, assuring that the President remains focused on delivering long-term benefits despite short-term hardships.
