UK Freezes Over 100 Bank Accounts Linked to MFM Over Financial Scandal

The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission has frozen more than 100 bank accounts linked to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) following revelations of serious financial mismanagement and governance failures within the church’s UK operations.
The inquiry, which began in 2018, revealed that MFM branches in the UK operated autonomously, opening accounts, acquiring properties, and making significant financial decisions without proper oversight or approval from the trustees. The rapid expansion of the church—from a few branches to over 90 locations nationwide—occurred without adequate governance or financial control structures.
In response to these findings, the Charity Commission initially appointed an Interim Manager in 2019 to stabilize the church’s finances. However, resistance from trustees led to a reappointment in 2021, bypassing the board—a decision later challenged by MFM before the First-Tier Tribunal.
As of October 2025, the Charity Commission has frozen all bank accounts linked to the church in the UK, while the investigation into alleged financial mismanagement continues.
“The freezing of accounts is a regulatory measure to ensure financial stability and accountability. This is not a criminal conviction but a step to protect the interests of donors and members,” the Commission noted.
Legal experts note that this action underscores the importance of transparency and proper governance in faith-based organizations, especially those operating internationally.
The church has not yet released a public statement regarding the account freezes, but members are reportedly being advised to remain calm while the inquiry proceeds.
