NULGE Strike: Osun APC Accuses NLC Chairman of Bias, Arapasopo Fires Back

By Erewunmi Peace
Tension is rising in Osun State as the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, of siding with Governor Ademola Adeleke in the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
In a statement, the APC alleged that Arapasopo was “promoting labour unrest” and fabricating claims against the opposition to cover up the state government’s failures. The party further accused him of enjoying personal benefits while the strike continued, insisting that his actions showed clear partisanship.
The APC also warned that the prolonged strike could worsen the hardship faced by local government workers and residents in Osun.
Reacting to the allegations, Comrade Arapasopo dismissed APC’s claims as false and politically motivated. He maintained that the NLC’s position was guided strictly by workers’ interests and constitutional rights, not partisan politics.
Arapasopo further accused the opposition of attempting to blackmail labour leaders instead of addressing the real issues affecting Osun workers.
The ongoing NULGE strike has paralysed local government administration across the state, with both government and opposition trading blame for the crisis.
As the standoff deepens, observers say dialogue between the state government, labour unions, and political actors remains the only path to resolving the impasse.
