Former First Lady of Oyo State, Dr. Florence Ajimobi, has officially arrived in Vienna, Austria, to assume her duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organisations based in Vienna. Her arrival marks the commencement of her diplomatic assignment following her appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dr. Ajimobi announced her arrival through a post on her official social media page, where she shared photographs of her reception at the Vienna International Airport. She disclosed that she was received by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Austria, Mr. Muyiwa Onifade, alongside officials of the Nigerian Mission and members of the Nigerian community in Austria.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve, she described the appointment as a privilege and pledged to work diligently in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and multilateral interests. According to her, the assignment represents another opportunity to contribute to national development through international engagement and cooperation.
As Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Dr. Ajimobi will also serve as the country’s Permanent Representative to several international organisations headquartered in Vienna. These include agencies involved in nuclear cooperation, industrial development, crime prevention, and international drug control, making the position one of significant diplomatic importance.
Her appointment was part of the ambassadorial nominations approved by President Tinubu earlier in the year after receiving the necessary legislative clearance. The deployment formed part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and deepen bilateral relations with strategic partners around the world.
Political leaders, associates, and supporters have continued to congratulate the former Oyo State First Lady on her new role, expressing confidence that her experience in public service, administration, and humanitarian work will contribute positively to Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
As she begins her diplomatic mission, Dr. Ajimobi is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Austria, promoting trade and investment opportunities, supporting Nigerians living in Austria, and enhancing the country’s engagement with international organisations headquartered in Vienna. Her tenure is also expected to advance Nigeria’s interests in areas such as economic cooperation, sustainable development, security, and multilateral diplomacy.
