NSA Ribadu Meets US Delegation to Deepen Security Cooperation

By Peace Erewunmi

National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has held talks with a high-level delegation from the United States as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

The delegation was led by the newly confirmed United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, who is on his first official visit to Nigeria since assuming office on June 1, 2026. The visit forms part of a broader diplomatic tour of West Africa.

The meeting, held in Abuja, focused on reviewing progress made under the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group and exploring ways to strengthen collaboration in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and other shared security concerns. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustained dialogue and enhanced cooperation in promoting regional stability.

Speaking after the meeting, Ribadu said the engagement reinforced the long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the United States and highlighted the shared commitment of both governments to advancing mutual security priorities through intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and capacity building.

Garcia’s visit comes at a time when Nigeria continues to confront security threats, including terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, while seeking stronger international partnerships to improve its security architecture. The discussions are expected to further deepen cooperation between both nations in addressing these challenges.
