Tinubu’s Chief of Staff in Fresh N54bn Scandal — Report

Fresh allegations have emerged linking the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to a purported ₦54 billion scandal, adding to the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged activities of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The claims come as investigations into the disputed agency continue.

According to the report, the allegations centre on claims that the purported PFIPC was able to operate within official government structures, allegedly receiving budgetary allocations and interacting with public institutions despite the Presidency maintaining that the agency was never lawfully established. The report questions how the organisation allegedly gained access to government processes and resources.

The Presidency has consistently denied any wrongdoing by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. It has maintained that his signature and official documents were forged by the principal suspect, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is currently facing criminal charges including forgery, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence. The Presidency insists that Gbajabiamila neither appointed Adeyemi nor authorised the activities attributed to the PFIPC.

Following the controversy, President Bola Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter. The government says the probe is intended to establish how the purported agency allegedly secured budgetary allocations, opened bank accounts, and obtained office space within the Federal Secretariat despite lacking official recognition.

The allegations have also generated political reactions. Opposition figures and some public commentators have called for an independent investigation, arguing that all officials connected to the matter should be questioned to ensure transparency and accountability. However, these calls represent political positions and are not findings of any court or investigative body.

As of now, no court has found Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila guilty of any offence, and the allegations remain under investigation. The outcome of the ongoing inquiries by the relevant authorities will determine whether any criminal or administrative liability exists.
