Court Remands Three Suspects Over Murder of Ex-OGTV Broadcaster, Security Guard
By Peace Erewunmi
An Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has ordered the remand of three suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo. The suspects will remain in custody for 60 days pending legal advice from the Ogun State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo granted the remand order after hearing an ex parte application filed by the Ogun State Police Command. The suspects—Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, Sobu Obafunsho, and Shakirudeen Ayoola—were ordered to be held at the Oba Correctional Centre while investigations and prosecutorial review continue.
The police told the court that the application was brought under Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Ogun State, 2017. According to the police legal officer, the request was supported by a 24-paragraph affidavit, 17 exhibits, and other documentary evidence submitted to justify the remand pending legal advice.
The case stems from the gruesome killing of Ms. Oyesiku, a retired broadcaster with Ogun State Television, and her security guard at her residence in Agodo, Abeokuta, in June 2026. The victims were discovered in pools of blood after neighbours reported suspicious activities at the residence. Investigators also found signs of forced entry, while the deceased’s Lexus RX330 vehicle was initially reported missing before it was later recovered.
Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni had earlier disclosed that investigators made a breakthrough after recovering a handwritten note inside the stolen vehicle. Forensic analysis of the note reportedly led detectives to the arrest of the prime suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was apprehended at a construction site in Abeokuta. Further investigations resulted in the arrest of the two other suspects.
According to the police, the prime suspect allegedly confessed to coordinating the attack, claiming he acted over grievances from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased. Investigators further alleged that the suspects overpowered the victim’s security guard before gaining access to the residence, where both victims were killed. The police also recovered exhibits including a hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, and other items believed to be connected to the crime.
Following the remand order, the court adjourned the matter until September 10, 2026, when it is expected to receive the legal advice from the DPP before deciding the next stage of the prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Command assured the public that justice would be pursued diligently. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that the command remains committed to ensuring that everyone found culpable in the killings is prosecuted in accordance with the law while respecting the suspects’ right to due process.
