The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his recent meeting with a leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the engagement should not be interpreted as a political alliance or defection.

Speaking while addressing the issue, Yilwatda explained that the meeting was a private interaction and stressed that political leaders are free to maintain cordial relationships across party lines. He maintained that such engagements are normal in a democratic society and should not be misconstrued as evidence of political realignment.

The APC chairman reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling party, stating that his focus remains on strengthening the APC and advancing its programmes ahead of the 2027 general election. He dismissed speculation suggesting that the meeting signalled divisions within the party or any form of political negotiation.

Yilwatda also urged Nigerians to avoid drawing conclusions from routine meetings among political figures, noting that dialogue and mutual respect are essential to sustaining democracy. He added that political differences should not prevent leaders from interacting on matters of national interest.

The clarification comes amid heightened political consultations and coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 elections, with meetings involving prominent politicians continuing to attract public attention and speculation.
