Africa’s richest woman and Nigerian business magnate, Folorunsho Alakija, has marked her 75th birthday, celebrating the milestone with an emphasis on faith, gratitude and service to humanity rather than wealth and luxury.

Despite building a multi-billion-dollar business empire spanning the oil, fashion and real estate sectors, Alakija has consistently described her relationship with God as her greatest achievement. She said her life’s purpose extends beyond material success, focusing instead on serving God and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

To commemorate her 75th birthday, the businesswoman opted for a modest celebration centred on worship and thanksgiving with members of her Rose of Sharon Ministry, instead of hosting an elaborate social event. The occasion also featured charitable outreach, with donations of food, cash and other essential items to vulnerable members of society.

Alakija expressed gratitude for reaching the age of 75 in good health, describing the milestone as a testament to God’s faithfulness. She noted that many of her contemporaries were not privileged to attain the same age, making the celebration a moment of reflection and thanksgiving.

Widely recognised for her philanthropic work through the Rose of Sharon Foundation, Alakija has continued to support widows, orphans and underserved communities through scholarships, empowerment programmes and humanitarian initiatives.
