Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has likened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, praising the President’s economic reforms and expressing confidence that they will transform Nigeria despite the short-term challenges.

Uzodimma made the remarks during a state dinner at the Government House in Owerri to mark the conclusion of the three-day Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour and the Presidential Communications Team’s inspection of federal and state government projects in Imo State.

According to the governor, President Tinubu assumed office with a clear understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and immediately embarked on bold reforms to reposition the country’s economy. He acknowledged that while the reforms have imposed temporary hardships on Nigerians, they are necessary to achieve long-term national development and economic stability.

Drawing comparisons with Singapore’s transformation under Lee Kuan Yew, Uzodimma said strong leadership often requires difficult decisions that may not enjoy immediate public support but ultimately deliver lasting prosperity. He argued that the gains of the current reforms are already becoming evident through increased government revenues and expanded infrastructure development across states.

The governor also expressed optimism that President Tinubu’s performance would earn him another term in office in the 2027 general election. He maintained that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) remain committed to supporting the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic reforms, infrastructure, healthcare, education and sustainable development.
