Blackout to Hit Six Northern States – TCN

By Peace Erewunmi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that residents of Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa and Taraba states will experience a two-day power outage due to a scheduled maintenance exercise on the national transmission network.

According to a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the temporary blackout is necessary to facilitate the installation of an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the 330kV Jos–Bauchi–Gombe single-circuit transmission line at the Bauchi 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.

The maintenance work will temporarily disrupt bulk electricity supply to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), affecting customers in Bauchi, Gombe, Damaturu, Maiduguri, Yola, Jalingo and surrounding communities.

TCN explained that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the national transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply across the affected region. The company assured consumers that the outage is planned and temporary.

The company further stated that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed and appealed to residents and businesses in the affected areas for understanding, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering a more reliable power transmission network nationwide.
