Political Earthquake in Gombe as Former SSG, PDP Elders’ Committee Chairman Joins APC

By Peace Erewunmi

A major political shift has occurred in Gombe State following the defection of former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders’ Committee, Alhaji Bala Muhammad Magaji, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Magaji announced his resignation from the PDP after years of membership, describing his decision as the outcome of extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across the state. He said the move was driven by his desire to contribute more effectively to the development of Gombe State.

The former SSG praised the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, stating that the administration’s development initiatives and governance style influenced his decision to join the APC. He expressed confidence that the ruling party would provide a stronger platform for advancing the interests of the people of Gombe.

Reacting to the defection, APC leaders in the state welcomed Magaji into the party, describing his decision as a significant boost ahead of future political contests. They noted that his political experience and influence would further strengthen the party’s structure across the state.

Magaji’s defection is regarded as one of the most notable political developments in Gombe in recent months, coming as parties continue to reposition and build alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
