Fubara Endorses Wike-Backed Governorship Candidate Kingsley Chinda, Declares Return to Political Family

By Peace Erewunmi

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly endorsed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor for the state’s governorship election, declaring his support for the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The announcement marks a significant political realignment after months of tension between the two leaders.

Speaking at a public event in Port Harcourt, Fubara said he had “returned to my political family” and admitted that “we’ve made mistakes,” urging his supporters to unite behind the coalition and its candidates. He added that the period of political conflict in Rivers State was over and called for peace and cooperation.

The governor also threw his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing the Rainbow Coalition as the political platform he now supports. He urged his loyalists to back Kingsley Chinda and other candidates presented by the coalition.

Fubara’s endorsement is widely seen as confirming a reconciliation with Wike after a prolonged political rift that had divided Rivers State. Political observers believe the development could significantly reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
