The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, has reflected on his long-standing relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he spent more than 12 years in exile with the President during the struggle for the restoration of democracy and later worked closely with him during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State.

Speaking at a public event, Ihonvbere said his years of working alongside Tinubu gave him firsthand knowledge of the President’s leadership style, decision-making process and commitment to democratic governance. He noted that their shared experiences during the pro-democracy movement shaped his confidence in Tinubu’s capacity to lead the country.

According to the lawmaker, Tinubu demonstrated resilience and courage during Nigeria’s struggle against military rule, adding that the President has consistently remained committed to reforms aimed at national development. He said his experience in Lagos also exposed him to Tinubu’s approach to governance and public administration.

Ihonvbere further expressed confidence in the ongoing reforms under the Tinubu administration, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the government continues implementing policies intended to improve the economy and strengthen public institutions.

The remarks come amid continued political discussions over the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda and ahead of preparations for the 2027 general election, with senior government officials defending the President’s policies and leadership record.
