The Federal Government has returned more than one million out-of-school children to classrooms across Nigeria through various education intervention programmes, the Minister of Education has disclosed.

According to the minister, the achievement is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to tackle the out-of-school children crisis and improve access to quality education, particularly for vulnerable children in underserved communities. The interventions include school enrolment campaigns, the rehabilitation of learning facilities, teacher support initiatives and partnerships with development organisations.

The minister noted that the government remains committed to ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to basic education, describing education as a critical tool for national development, poverty reduction and social inclusion. He added that efforts are also being made to improve learning outcomes and reduce school dropout rates.

The Federal Government is also working with state governments, traditional rulers, community leaders and international partners to address the factors responsible for children being out of school, including poverty, insecurity, child labour and inadequate educational infrastructure.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to educational reform, the minister said more programmes would be introduced to increase school enrolment, strengthen the education system and ensure that millions of Nigerian children are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for a better future.
