Sunday Igboho Apologizes to Ooni of Ife, Seeks Forgiveness and Support

By Erewunmi Peace

Yoruba Nation agitator Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has finally apologized to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for previous remarks considered disrespectful to the revered monarch.

Igboho, who has been a vocal advocate for Yoruba self-determination, visited the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, where he tendered an unreserved apology before the monarch and other traditional rulers present.

In an emotional moment, Igboho prostrated before the Ooni and admitted his past comments were wrong. He appealed for the monarch’s forgiveness and sought his royal support in resolving issues that have plagued him since his clash with security agencies in 2021.

“I know I have offended the Ooni. Please forgive me for the words I spoke in anger. I am deeply sorry and I seek your blessings,” Igboho said during the visit.

According to reports, the Ooni accepted his apology and assured him of royal support in addressing his security challenges, which include being on a watchlist and restrictions on his bank accounts.

The meeting also highlighted the need for peace, unity, and dialogue among Yoruba leaders, following years of tension sparked by secessionist agitations and security concerns in the Southwest region.

Sunday Igboho’s public apology marks a significant step towards reconciliation with traditional authorities and could influence his future political and social engagements within the Yoruba nation movement.
