The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended two lecturers in its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering over allegations of extortion and violations of the institution’s regulations. The decision followed the recommendations of a committee established to investigate complaints against the staff members.

The affected lecturers, Dr. Collins Ojeh and Mr. Emmanuel Eze, were notified of their suspension in separate letters signed by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ambrose Ugwu. According to the university, the suspensions took effect from July 20, 2026, with Dr. Ojeh suspended indefinitely without pay, while Mr. Eze remains suspended pending further investigation by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.

ESUT directed both lecturers to immediately hand over all university property in their possession to the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The institution, however, did not disclose specific details of the alleged extortion or the circumstances surrounding the investigation.

In a related development, the university issued a formal warning to the Acting Head of the Department, Dr. Princewill Ene, for what it described as inadequate supervision of activities within and around the department during his tenure. ESUT warned that any future reports of similar lapses could attract stricter disciplinary measures.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, transparency and academic integrity, stating that it would continue to take appropriate action against any member of staff found to have violated its rules and ethical standards.
