NAFDAC Intercepts ₦10bn Worth of Cocaine, Canadian Loud, Opioids at Lagos Ports

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed three factories in Ogun State for allegedly producing alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, in violation of the Federal Government’s ban on such products. The enforcement exercise forms part of the agency’s nationwide crackdown on the production and distribution of prohibited alcoholic beverages.
The affected facilities include Intercontinental Distilleries Ltd., Shashi Distillery Ltd., and an undisclosed factory linked to Nigeria Distillery Ltd. located in the Sango-Ota and Idi-Iroko axis of Ogun State.
According to Mr. Kunle Ojo, Assistant Director in NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, intelligence gathered during follow-up inspections revealed that the companies had resumed the production of banned sachet alcohol despite previous regulatory warnings. Officials reportedly discovered production machines in operation, along with large quantities of prohibited packaging materials and numerous 100ml alcoholic bottles.
NAFDAC also disclosed that some items earlier placed under regulatory seal had disappeared before officials returned for inspection, describing the development as a serious violation that would attract further administrative action.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the nationwide ban on sachet alcohol and alcoholic drinks packaged in PET bottles below 200ml, stressing that the policy is aimed at protecting public health and reducing alcohol abuse. NAFDAC urged members of the public to report any suspected production or distribution of banned alcoholic beverages to the nearest agency office.
