Akwa Ibom Approves ₦31bn Economic Empowerment Programme Across 31 LGAs

By Peace Erewunmi

The Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the release of ₦31 billion for an economic empowerment programme targeted at residents across the state’s 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The programme, approved by the State Executive Council, is designed to support youths, women, traders, farmers, transport operators and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as part of efforts to boost economic activities and improve livelihoods. Each local government area is expected to receive funding support under the initiative.

Governor Umo Eno said the intervention aligns with the administration’s ARISE Agenda, which focuses on people-centred governance, poverty reduction and economic inclusion. He urged government officials to ensure effective implementation and accountability in delivering the programme’s benefits to residents.

The state government stated that the empowerment scheme is expected to create more opportunities for citizens, strengthen local businesses and provide support for vulnerable groups affected by economic challenges.

The initiative adds to other social intervention programmes by the Akwa Ibom government, including food distribution and skills development efforts aimed at supporting households and promoting inclusive growth across the state.

Authorities said monitoring mechanisms would be put in place to ensure that the funds reach intended beneficiaries and contribute meaningfully to economic development at the grassroots level.
