Students Escape Through Ceiling as Gunmen Kidnap Five at Ogun Polytechnic Hostel

At least five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), Ogun State, were abducted after suspected gunmen attacked a private hostel in Ipara-Remo on Wednesday night, prompting a major security operation by the police.
According to reports, the armed men stormed the hostel at about 8:00 p.m., firing gunshots and causing panic among students. While some occupants managed to escape by breaking through the hostel’s POP ceiling, others were unable to flee before the attackers whisked away five students.
The Ogun State Police Command said it immediately activated a joint rescue operation involving tactical units and other security agencies after receiving a distress call. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that security operatives have launched a manhunt for the abductors and are working to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
Following the incident, the institution suspended scheduled examinations for the day, while students expressed concern over security around off-campus hostels. The Students’ Union also urged the authorities to strengthen security measures to prevent similar attacks.
The police appealed to residents with useful information to assist security agencies, assuring the public that every effort is being made to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
