Body of Missing 27-Year-Old NYSC Member Found in Bayelsa

The body of a 27-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, has been recovered in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, days after he was declared missing. The tragic discovery has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Chimaroke, a Civil Engineering graduate and former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was serving in Nembe Creek when he reportedly disappeared. He was last seen on July 24, and repeated attempts to reach him through his mobile phone were unsuccessful, leading fellow corps members to report him missing to the police.
Following the report, the Bayelsa State Police Command deployed operatives to the riverine community to begin a search operation. The search later ended in tragedy when his lifeless body was recovered from a body of water in the area. The exact cause of his death has not yet been officially established.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Musa Mohammed, confirmed that a discreet investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He added that the body has been deposited in a morgue pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of corps members posted to remote and riverine communities across Nigeria, with stakeholders calling for stronger security measures to protect NYSC members during their service year.
