NDLEA, Customs Strengthen Collaboration to Tackle Drug Trafficking in Nigeria

By Erewunmi Peace

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have strengthened their collaboration in a renewed effort to combat drug trafficking and other transnational crimes across the country.

The partnership was formalized during a high-level engagement in Abuja between the leadership of both agencies, aimed at improving coordination in intelligence sharing, border surveillance, and joint enforcement operations.

According to officials, the agreement is designed to enhance the capacity of both agencies to respond more effectively to the increasing activities of drug trafficking networks operating within and across Nigeria’s borders.

The agencies noted that improved cooperation will help block illegal drug movements, strengthen border security, and disrupt organized criminal groups involved in narcotics trade.

The Comptroller-General of Customs and the leadership of NDLEA both reaffirmed their commitment to working closely to ensure that Nigeria’s borders are better protected from illicit drug activities.

The move has been described as a strategic step toward strengthening national security and addressing the growing threat of drug-related crimes in the country.

Further details on joint operations and implementation strategies are expected in the coming weeks.
