Lukman Expresses Frustration Over Opposition’s Chances, Wants APC Defeated in 2027

By Peace Erewunmi

Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has said he wants the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be defeated in the 2027 general elections, but admitted he is becoming frustrated by the current state of the opposition.

Speaking during a recent interview, Lukman said his frustration stems from what he described as the inability of opposition leaders to build a united front capable of presenting a credible alternative to the ruling party. He argued that internal divisions and personal ambitions are weakening efforts to challenge the APC.

Lukman warned that unless opposition parties set aside individual interests and work together, they risk handing the APC an easy path to victory in 2027. He stressed that defeating the ruling party would require genuine negotiations, compromise and a common political agenda rather than isolated campaigns.

The former APC chieftain, who has since aligned with the opposition coalition, maintained that his criticism was aimed at encouraging stronger cooperation among opposition leaders. According to him, Nigerians deserve a competitive democratic process in which voters are presented with viable alternatives.

His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with both the ruling party and opposition groups intensifying consultations and efforts to strengthen their support bases across the country.
