Team Nigeria concluded its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, with an impressive performance, finishing seventh overall on the final medals table and emerging as Africa’s highest-ranked nation at the Games.

Nigeria ended the competition with a total of 24 medals—10 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze. The country’s gold medals came from athletics, weightlifting and powerlifting, reflecting another strong outing in sports where Nigeria has consistently excelled on the international stage.

The final day of competition saw Team Nigeria add more medals through standout performances in athletics, including a silver medal in the men’s 4×100 metres relay and a bronze medal in the women’s long jump, helping the country secure its seventh-place finish.

Among the team’s standout performers were Samuel Ogazi, who claimed gold in the men’s 400 metres, Ezekiel Nathaniel, who won the men’s 400m hurdles, and several Nigerian weightlifters and powerlifters who contributed significantly to the medal haul. Their performances reinforced Nigeria’s reputation as one of the Commonwealth’s leading sporting nations.

Australia topped the final medal standings, followed by England and Canada, while Nigeria finished ahead of every other African country. Sports administrators and fans have praised Team Nigeria’s performance, describing it as another milestone that demonstrates the country’s growing competitiveness across multiple sporting disciplines.
