Vice President Kashim Shettima has defended the economic reforms introduced by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the policies deserve commendation rather than condemnation as they are beginning to produce positive results for Nigeria’s economy.

Shettima made the remarks at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, where he said the administration inherited an economy marked by capital flight, low foreign reserves and deep structural challenges that required bold policy decisions to restore stability and investor confidence.

According to the Vice President, Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen from about $3 billion during periods of economic strain to over $52 billion, a development he attributed to the Federal Government’s ongoing economic reforms and increased capital inflows. He said the improvement demonstrates that the administration’s policies are beginning to yield measurable results.

Shettima also praised Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for publicly supporting the Federal Government’s reform agenda and helping Nigerians understand the economic realities inherited by the current administration. He noted that difficult but necessary decisions were essential to reposition the economy for sustainable growth.

The Vice President assured investors that the Federal Government would continue collaborating with state governments to improve the business environment, remove barriers to investment and drive long-term economic transformation through sustained reforms and private sector participation.
