By Erewunmi Peace
Election observer and civil society advocate, Samson Itodo, has clarified that the provision regarding unmarked ballot papers is not new in Nigeria’s electoral framework.
Speaking amid ongoing discussions on electoral processes, Itodo explained that existing electoral laws already contain guidelines on how such ballot papers should be treated during elections.
He noted that the issue has been part of Nigeria’s electoral system over time, stressing that recent debates may stem from misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the law.
According to him, proper awareness of electoral provisions is essential to ensure transparency and build public confidence in the voting process.
The clarification comes as stakeholders continue to engage in conversations around electoral reforms, credibility, and the integrity of elections in Nigeria.
Observers say that accurate understanding of electoral guidelines is crucial to preventing misinformation and ensuring smooth electoral processes in future elections.
Further discussions are expected as experts and institutions continue to educate the public on electoral matters.
