FG to Begin Payment of Outstanding Wage Award Arrears Mid-August

By Peace Erewunmi

The Federal Government has announced that payment of the outstanding wage award arrears owed to federal workers will commence in the middle of August 2026, as part of efforts to fulfil its commitments to public sector employees.

The government said the payment is intended to clear the remaining balance of the wage award introduced to cushion the effects of economic reforms and the rising cost of living. Officials noted that arrangements have been concluded to ensure that eligible workers receive the outstanding payments in phases.

According to the government, the move reflects its commitment to improving workers’ welfare and maintaining cordial relations with organised labour. It also assured public servants that all outstanding obligations would be settled in line with available resources and the approved payment schedule.

The announcement comes amid sustained calls by labour unions for the settlement of wage award arrears and the full implementation of agreements reached with the Federal Government on workers’ welfare.

The Federal Government urged workers to remain patient and assured them that it would continue engaging with labour leaders to address other outstanding issues affecting public servants while pursuing policies aimed at stabilising the economy.
