By Erewunmi Peace

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced March 11, 2026, as the official date for the commencement of political campaigns for the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, emphasizing that INEC will ensure all campaign activities comply with the Electoral Act and existing guidelines.

According to Dr. Agboke, political parties will receive formal communication from INEC regarding campaign timelines, protocols, and guidelines to ensure a transparent and peaceful electoral process.

The announcement coincides with the second phase of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled to take place on August 8, 2026, meaning that campaign activities will officially run from March 11 until 24 hours before election day, in line with INEC regulations.

INEC’s clarification is aimed at preventing unauthorized campaign activities and ensuring a level playing field for all parties and candidates. Political analysts believe the early announcement will help parties plan strategic campaigns while allowing voters to engage meaningfully with candidates ahead of the polls.
