Tinubu Summons 76 Osun APC Leaders to Aso Rock Amid Party Disquiet
By Peace Erewunmi
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned about 76 leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid growing concerns over internal disagreements within the party ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The emergency meeting reportedly followed an intelligence report from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, which indicated that some influential APC leaders in Osun felt sidelined in the affairs of the party, including the ongoing governorship campaign.
According to reports, the meeting was held late at night at the Aso Rock Villa. APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru was reportedly contacted by the Presidency to coordinate the affected party leaders, with some of them flown from Ibadan to Abuja for the meeting.
Some of the leaders reportedly used the meeting to express grievances about what they described as a lack of inclusivity in the party’s affairs and federal appointments involving Osun State. They also raised concerns about the influence of different political camps within the state chapter.
Sources who attended the meeting said President Tinubu urged the party leaders to close ranks and work together for the victory of the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, stressing that internal divisions could damage the party’s chances at the polls.
One attendee reportedly described the gathering as a no-holds-barred discussion where leaders were able to present their concerns directly to the President. The source said Tinubu acknowledged some of the grievances and encouraged the leaders to put their differences aside ahead of the election.
The meeting comes at a critical point in the Osun election campaign, with the APC seeking to defeat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and return the party to power in the state.
The Osun APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, confirmed that the meeting took place but declined to provide further details.
The development highlights the importance of internal cohesion in the final days of the campaign, as the APC attempts to consolidate its structures and prevent internal disagreements from affecting its electoral performance.
