Ghanaian MP says no Igbo kingdom in Ghana, warns against abuse of hospitality.

By Erewunmi Peace

Ghanaian lawmaker, Hon. Sam Nartey George, representing the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, has publicly debunked claims circulating online about the establishment of an “Igbo kingdom” in his constituency. The lawmaker issued a strong warning, urging non-Ghanaians not to take the country’s hospitality for granted.

The controversy began when a Nigerian national, Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, also known as Eze Ndi Igbo Ghana, allegedly claimed he was building a 50-acre Igbo community in Old Ningo. The proposed development reportedly included a palace, Igbo-named streets, schools, and a marketplace.

However, MP Sam George swiftly denied any such arrangement or approval. In a statement shared on social media, he clarified:

“There is no ‘Igbo Kingdom’ or any land allocated for such in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency. We value hospitality, but it must not be mistaken for weakness or consent.”

He emphasized that while Ghana welcomes foreigners, including Nigerians, any attempt to establish autonomous ethnic or cultural territories without proper authorization undermines national sovereignty and local governance.

The MP also urged citizens and social media users to refrain from spreading false information that could trigger ethnic tensions or diplomatic misunderstandings between Ghana and Nigeria.

The issue has since sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over the alleged claim, while others called for peaceful coexistence and clearer legal frameworks around land acquisition and community leadership.

As of now, there has been no official comment from Chukwudi Ihenetu or the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana regarding the incident.
