In a major stride toward strengthening security and boosting infrastructure, the Oyo State Government has approved the procurement of two surveillance aircraft and over ₦126 billion in infrastructure development projects.

The decisions were announced by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, following the State Executive Council meeting held in Ibadan on Tuesday.

₦7.76 Billion Approved for Security Aircraft

To combat rising insecurity and support law enforcement operations, Oyo State will spend ₦7.76 billion to acquire two DA 42 MNG Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft.

“These aircraft will help monitor criminal activities such as illegal mining, banditry, and kidnapping,” Oyelade said. He added that the surveillance planes would work in coordination with the Nigerian Air Force and the Amotekun Corps, enhancing air-based reconnaissance in difficult terrain.

₦126 Billion Set Aside for Roads and Utilities

In addition to the security upgrade, the Makinde-led administration is investing heavily in infrastructure to support economic growth and urban modernization.

Key approvals include:

₦83 billion for the continuation of the Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road (72 km section), including interchanges, flyovers, and bridges.

₦36.3 billion for the resurfacing of key roads, such as Secretariat Road, UI–Sango–Trans Amusement Park Road, and Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road.

₦6.8 billion to reconstruct the Mobil–Oluyole Industrial Estate road, a vital route for manufacturing and logistics.

₦595 million, plus ₦190 million monthly, for the operation and maintenance of the “Light-Up Oyo” solar-powered streetlight project.

According to Oyelade, “We are preparing Oyo State not just to meet today’s challenges, but to embrace the opportunities of tomorrow.”
