NIMC Urges Nigerians to Report Extortion by Staff and Front-End Partners

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a strong warning against extortion by its staff and Front-End Partners (FEPs), calling on Nigerians to report any illegal charges encountered during the National Identification Number (NIN) registration or related services.
In an official statement released on Sunday, NIMC’s Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency and citizen service. She emphasized that NIN registration is free, and any charges must adhere strictly to the approved guidelines available on NIMC’s official platforms.
“We urge Nigerians not to pay any unauthorized fees. If you experience extortion or poor service from any of our staff or partners, please report immediately,” the DG said.
Coker-Odusote revealed that over 100 Front-End Partners have already been disengaged for violating the Commission’s service standards, including cases of extortion and unprofessional conduct.
NIMC also noted a 40% reduction in illegal charges across its registration centers, attributing the progress to its recent internal reforms, training, and monitoring systems.
Nigerians are encouraged to use official complaint channels on NIMC’s website or call the Commission’s toll-free number to report misconduct.
