Tension in Universities as JAMB Sets Hard Deadlines for 2025 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued strict deadlines for the conclusion of the 2025 admission processes across Nigerian tertiary institutions, creating tension among universities and stakeholders in the education sector.
According to JAMB’s latest bulletin, public universities must complete all admissions by October 31, 2025, while private universities have until November 30, 2025. Other institutions, including polytechnics and colleges of education, are required to finalize admissions by December 31, 2025.
This directive was part of the resolutions reached at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education. JAMB explained that the move aims to stabilize the academic calendar, reduce delays in admissions, and ensure fairness across all institutions.
However, the announcement has caused concern among universities that fear they may not meet the tight timelines due to internal processes and strikes. Education analysts warn that some institutions may struggle to comply, especially those still recovering from past disruptions.
In a statement, JAMB urged all institutions to adhere strictly to the deadlines to avoid sanctions. “There will be no extension,” the board emphasized.
Key Deadlines:
Public Universities: October 31, 2025
Private Universities: November 30, 2025
Polytechnics/Colleges of Education: December 31, 2025
Stakeholders and students are advised to stay informed and complete necessary admission procedures early to avoid missing out.
