Gov Uzodimma’s Aide Reveals When Imo Workers Will Start Receiving ₦104,000 Minimum Wage

By Erewunmi Peace

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Oguwike Nwachukwu, has confirmed that Imo State workers will begin receiving the new ₦104,000 minimum wage with their August salaries.

This follows Governor Uzodimma’s approval of the wage increase during a meeting with labour leaders at the Government House, Owerri, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. The decision raises the minimum wage from ₦76,000 to ₦104,000 for civil servants in the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Nwachukwu assured workers that implementation has already begun.

“The governor made a commitment, and I can confirm that the new minimum wage will take effect starting from the August 2025 salaries,” he said. “Consequential adjustments for other categories of civil servants will be addressed in the coming months.”

Labour Praises Government’s Move

The new wage structure has been welcomed by labour unions, who described the approval as a step in the right direction amid rising living costs. According to reports, the government is also reviewing allowances for health workers and other essential staff.

Governor Uzodimma had earlier announced plans to improve workers’ welfare as part of his administration’s efforts to cushion the effects of economic challenges in the country.

With this development, Imo becomes one of the first states in Nigeria to approve and implement a ₦104,000 minimum wage, following calls from labour unions for an upward review of salaries.
