Dogara Declares Northern Crisis a National Emergency

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has raised fresh concerns over the worsening insecurity and socio-economic challenges in northern Nigeria, describing the situation as a national emergency.
Dogara, who spoke during a recent public engagement, warned that the scale of killings, poverty, and displacement across the region has gone beyond local containment and now threatens national stability.
He stressed that government at all levels must treat the crisis as a matter of urgent priority, urging decisive action to restore peace and economic growth.
“The security situation and rising poverty in the North are no longer regional problems; they have become a national emergency requiring collective intervention,” Dogara said.
The former Speaker also cautioned that neglecting the crisis could have wider implications for Nigeria’s unity and development.
This call adds to growing voices from stakeholders demanding stronger security strategies, economic reforms, and targeted humanitarian support for affected communities.
