Tinubu’s Military Shake-Up Restores Career Progression, Boosts Morale — Ex-Army General

A retired Nigerian Army General has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent shake-up in the nation’s military leadership, describing it as a timely move that restores career progression and boosts morale among officers.
Major General Anthony Atolagbe (Rtd) said the President’s decision to appoint new service chiefs was in line with the harmonised terms and conditions of service for the Armed Forces. He explained that the reshuffle would ensure that officers awaiting promotion have the opportunity to advance in their careers.
“The shake-up is healthy for the system. It restores discipline, encourages professionalism, and gives room for younger officers to rise through the ranks,” Atolagbe said in an interview with journalists.
President Tinubu recently approved the appointment of new heads for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as a new Chief of Defence Staff. The move follows calls from defence analysts and military veterans for a restructuring to improve efficiency and coordination within the armed forces.
Observers say the new appointments will likely enhance operational effectiveness, particularly in addressing ongoing security challenges across the country.
The Defence Headquarters has pledged its full commitment to the President’s renewed security agenda, assuring Nigerians of a more proactive and coordinated military response to emerging threats.
