Police: Davido Was Target of Attack on Gov Adeleke’s Convoy

The Osun State Police Command has revealed that music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was the target of the attack that disrupted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on August 19, 2026, shortly after Governor Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo following his receipt of his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that an ex-convict and suspected member of the Eye Confraternity, identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of the singer’s security team.
The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members in the area, who allegedly blocked the entrance to the palace and obstructed the movement of the governor’s convoy.
The situation subsequently escalated into a gun duel between the suspected gang members and security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy, causing panic among residents in the area.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the suspected gang members later left the area. He added that a 60-year-old man, identified as Tajudeen Yusuf, was shot dead at Itaolokan in Osogbo during the incident.
The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved in the attack.
The development has raised fresh concerns over security in Osun State, coming shortly after Governor Adeleke secured re-election in the August 15 governorship election.
Police authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
