Fayose Declares PDP ‘Dead’ as Court Halts Party’s National Convention

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “dead” following a Federal High Court ruling that stopped the party from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The court ruling, obtained on Monday, also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, monitoring, or recognizing the outcome of the convention, citing ongoing leadership disputes within the party. (theeagleonline.com.ng)

Speaking after the court’s decision, Fayose expressed disappointment over the internal crisis in the party and stated:

“The PDP is dead. The party is in total disarray, and the leadership struggle has exposed the rot within the organization.” (vanguardngr.com)

The former governor also criticized the handling of party affairs, saying the inability to resolve disputes internally had damaged the PDP’s image and credibility among Nigerians.

The PDP leadership has yet to respond publicly to both the court ruling and Fayose’s remarks. Political analysts suggest that this development could further deepen divisions within the party ahead of upcoming elections.

The court’s decision adds to a string of challenges for the PDP, which has faced leadership crises and factional disputes in recent years, threatening its ability to function effectively as a national political party.
