Ogun Diaspora Group in U.S. Backs Yayi, Promises Investment and Development Partnership
By Peace Erewunmi
A coalition of Ogun State indigenes based in the United States has declared its support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, pledging to partner with him on investment, economic development, and community-based initiatives aimed at accelerating the state’s growth.
The endorsement was announced during an engagement between members of the Ogun Diaspora group and Senator Adeola. The group described the lawmaker as a leader with a track record of attracting developmental projects and advancing policies that promote economic growth and improved living standards for the people of Ogun State. According to its members, they are prepared to contribute their expertise, professional experience, and financial resources toward the state’s development.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, representatives of the group said Ogun State possesses enormous economic potential that can be unlocked through stronger collaboration between government and citizens living abroad. They noted that the diaspora community is willing to invest in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and youth empowerment if the right partnerships are established.
The group also expressed confidence in Senator Adeola’s leadership, stating that his experience in public finance and legislative affairs positions him to champion policies capable of attracting both domestic and foreign investment. They pledged to mobilise fellow Ogun indigenes abroad to participate in initiatives that would create jobs, stimulate entrepreneurship, and improve social welfare across the state.
Responding to the endorsement, Senator Adeola thanked the diaspora community for its confidence and support. He described Nigerians in the diaspora as strategic partners in national and state development, acknowledging their contributions through investments, remittances, skills transfer, and humanitarian projects.
The senator reiterated his commitment to promoting policies that encourage investment, improve infrastructure, strengthen education and healthcare systems, and expand economic opportunities for residents of Ogun State. He assured the delegation that their ideas and proposals would receive serious consideration as part of broader efforts to foster inclusive development.
Adeola further emphasised the importance of maintaining strong relationships between the government and Nigerians living abroad, noting that the diaspora possesses valuable knowledge, global networks, and investment capacity that can significantly contribute to the state’s long-term prosperity.
The meeting comes amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, during which Senator Adeola has continued to receive endorsements from various political groups, professional associations, and community organisations. While the endorsement reflects the position of the diaspora group, political observers note that the eventual choice of leaders will ultimately be determined by voters through the electoral process.
The engagement concluded with both parties expressing optimism about future collaboration to promote investment, sustainable development, and improved economic opportunities for the people of Ogun State.
